Led Zeppelin was an English rock band that started in London back in 1968. Their style relies on heavy guitar, and they’re cited as one of the pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal. Their music was revolutionary at the time. Unlike today’s heavy metal grunge bands, their songs are influenced by folk and blues, so they’re able to influence fans of these genres as well. Their style was new, yet it wasn’t a radical departure from the norm. The band has also been credited to the development of album-oriented rock and stadium rock, paving the way for other greats like Queen.

The group was composed of vocalist Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, drummer John Bonham and bassist John Paul Jones. This group of musicians became known as Led Zeppelin in 1968 after a successful Scandinavian tour. Their 1969 debut album Led Zeppelin was considered a success peaking in the Billboard Charts.  As mentioned, their style marked the gradual transition of music from folk and blues to rock and metal. The single Whole Lotta Love released in 1970 hit number four in the Billboard charts, which cemented the band’s popularity.

Led Zeppelin reached greater heights in the early 70s, their album Led Zeppelin IV sold over 37 million copies and their song Stairway to Heaven became the most played rock song in the 70s. The band became flamboyant in their presentations and even became infamous for trashing their accommodations as well as tales of debauchery. Led Zeppelin IV was followed by the successful Houses of the Holy in 1973 and 1975 Physical Graffiti. The band continued to be successful until 1980 upon John Bonham’s early death forcing the band to dissolve. Their music continued being popular the following years pushed along by occasional reunions of the remaining members.

Upon mention of the words rock and metal, they suggest modernity, yet the rock of this era remains best to listen to in cassette or LP form. You’re in luck as we have their LPs, and not just ordinary LPs but the very vinyl records produced during Led Zeppelin’s heyday!
