Forgive the puns but its hard not to get caught up by the group’s electrically charged repertoire. The band needs no introduction for classic rock enthusiasts but for the benefit of new fans with old souls, AC/DC, is an Australian rock band formed in 1973. Its members initially comprised of musician brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, singer Bon Scott, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Mark Evans. The lineup would change over the years, due to various reasons such as Evans’ firing, Scott’s early death, and Phil Rudd leaving, but the appeal of their music remains up until the present with the latest album Power Up released in November 2020.

AC/DCs greatest hits include the timeless Highway to Hell, somewhat solemn but loud Hell’s Bells, the gritty electrical techno-charged Thunderstruck; fun and upbeat You Shook Me All Night Long, It’s a Long Way to the Top, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Moneytalks and Whole Lotta Rosie. Their best albums include 1980s Back in Black, 1978’s Powerage, 1976’s High Voltage, 1977’s Let There Be Rock and 1979’s Highway to Hell.

AC/DC has always referred to themselves as a rock and roll band. AC/DCs heavy guitar riffs and forceful vocals enforce that statement but sometimes gets them associated with heavy metal which they deny. They did for a time dress in glam rock costumes. Their music can be best described as hard rock mixed with blues music with a tinge of humor and sexism which sometimes got them in trouble with critics. It didn’t help that often referencing the underworld in their songs got them mixed in the 80s Satanic Panic. But that didn’t stop their electrically charged performances even past the new millennium.
